MEET THE SPARTANS (pictured above)

Stars: Sean Maguire, Carmen Electra
Directors: Jason Friedberg, Aaron Seltzer
Story: While pop-culture products from American Idol to Shrek to Ugly Betty get skewered in this latest parody from the makers of Epic Movie, most of the mirth is saved for 300, that surprise CGI hit that starred Gerard Butler’s abs as Sparta’s saviour.
DVD Extras: an unrated version has a gag reel, trivia game and set tour

Stars: Will Ferrell, Woody Harrelson
Director: Kent Alterman (debut)
Story: In the waning days of the American Basketball Association, the pathetic Flint Tropics have one chance to survive. They have to become one of the league’s top-four teams in order to be absorbed into the NBA. Ferrell plays the team’s player-owner, and Harrelson is a veteran player-coach brought in for the final push.


THE EYE

Stars: Jessica Alba, Alessandro Nivola
Directors: David Moreau, Xavier Palud
Story: After receiving a cornea transplant, a blind violinist (Alba) regains her sight.  Problem is, much of what she sees is dead people, and as her sight improves her visions get more and more gruesome. Based on the 2002 Hong Kong horror Gin gwai.

THE BUCKET LIST

Stars: Jack Nicholson, Morgan Freeman
Director: Rob Reiner (Rumor Has It...)
Story: Dying from terminal cancer, Edward (Nicholson), a rich and unlikeable hospital owner, finds himself sharing a room with fellow cancer patient Carter (Freeman). When Carter tells Edward of his “bucket list,” all the things he wants to do before he dies, Edward blows his fortune on a road trip to fulfill Carter’s dying wishes.


JUMPER

Stars: Hayden Christensen, Rachel Bilson
Director: Doug Liman (Mr. & Mrs. Smith)
Story: David (Christensen) can teleport all around the world. Pretty cool, especially since he thinks he may be the only one who can. But on a trip to Rome with his girlfriend (Bilson), David learns that not only is he not unique, but there’s a whole race of beings who want to kill those like him.

Story: The chance to finally get their hands on a sunken Spanish ship and the fortune inside is enough to reunite treasure hunter Finn (McConaughey) and his ex-wife Tess (Hudson).

Stars: Anton Yelchin, Robert Downey Jr.
Director: Jon Poll (debut)
Story: Kicked out of one private school after another, Charlie Bartlett (Yelchin) finally  lands at a public school where he’s ridiculed for his suit-and-tie ways. Until, that is, he decides to start selling his psychologist-perscribed Ritalin and holding therapy sessions in the boys’ bathroom.

THE SPIDERWICK CHRONICLES

Stars: Freddie Highmore, Mary-Louise Parker
Director: Mark Waters (Mean Girls)
Story: Sullen schoolboy Jared (Highmore) has to convince his mom (Parker), sister and twin brother (also Highmore) that the field guide he found in their creepy old estate allows him to see goblins, trolls and other weird creatures.
